Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang Mok on Dec. 4 said, "All national systems including those of Korean politics and economy are functioning normally as before."

The Ministry of Economy and Finance said he sent an urgent letter with this content to finance ministers, major international organizations, global credit rating agencies, financial institutions and investors abroad.

In the letter, Minister Choi explained the nation's situation in the wake of the recent declaration and termination of martial law, stressing the government's intent to pursue stable economic policy.

He said, "Martial law and all measures issued pursuant to it were lifted following the National Assembly's request for lifting martial law and deliberation by the State Council based on the Constitution and related laws."

"A sound economic system is effectively controlling the havoc caused by non-economic factors," he added. "Rapid restoration of stability on the financial and foreign exchange markets also demonstrates that this economic turmoil will not be prolonged."

"We will do our best to minimize the negative effect on economic activities such as exports," he said. "The government will keep taking necessary actions to ensure the nation's high international credibility."
