Season 2 of the smash Netflix series "Squid Game" makes its global premiere on Dec. 26 at 5 p.m. (Korean Standard Time).

The new season features the fierce battle between Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who is bent on revenge at the start of a new game, and the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun).

Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk returns to direct the series' latest installment, which comprises seven episodes centered on the two protagonists. New characters played by actors Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul and Park Gyu-young will lead the story's flow.

The new season has also been nominated for Best Television Series at next month's Golden Globe Awards of the U.S.

Receiving a nomination before a work's release is incredibly rare. Thus this shows just how "Squid Game," which returns after a three-year hiatus, has captivated viewer attention not just in Korea but around the world.
