"The Witch: Part 2. The Other One" is a sequel to the 2018 film "The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion."
The movie is about a girl who escapes from a secret lab and several groups with their own objectives hunt her down. Actor Justin Harvey portrays Tom, a mercenary who joins the search for the girl.
Among the characters in the film, Tom interested me the most because of his mystery and Harvey's suitability for the role. So I decided to interview the actor.
In an email interview on July 1, he discussed his role in the film. The South African-born Harvey has lived in Korea for seven years and is known to audiences for his appearances in Korean variety shows like "Korean Foreigners" and "Welcome, First Time in Korea?"
Calling his character in the film "a very lovable and charismatic character," Harvey said, "He (Tom) is pretty happy-go-lucky and doesn't care about most things. He has one priority: make sure his chief is safe. Tom will crack a joke at the most inopportune times, but when it comes to fighting, another side of him is visible. A more violent, dark side."
On when he got the role, he said, "I was pretty happy. But honestly, I didn't know how big the role was until I read the script, and it turned out to be huge. I was excited because I could really dig my teeth into the character as well as prepare physically for the role by going to action school, which I really enjoyed."
Turning to his fellow cast members, Harvey said, "We all became very close, especially Seo Eun-soo and me. We worked together through the script quite often and did most training together. Jin Goo mentored me a lot throughout the latter part of filming. I look up to him as an older brother," he said.
"The best part of filming 'The Witch: Part 2. The Other One' was rediscovering my love for art and entertainment and doing what makes me happiest. Whether action, dialogue or assistance with the script in English, I now have more conviction about what I want to do. And I enjoy the process of studying acting in Korean."
"What I love most about acting is being able to improve with every role. The more roles I take, the more I learn. I enjoy discovering new techniques that help me represent my character truthfully," he added. "I'm very excited about the future and hope to have the opportunity to play a Korean-speaking role."
