“Korea Haenyeo, diving into the sea of Indian Continent”
JEJU HAENYEO SPECIAL EXHIBITION 2024
The Korean Cultural Centre India cordially invites you to immerse yourself in the vibrant tapestry of Korean artistry at our upcoming exhibition, Korea Haenyeo, diving into the sea of Indian Continent.
The Haenyeo is Korean female diver who follows traditional manner with co-existing with nature. Jeju Haenyeo culture was designated as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO on November 30, 2016 with highly regarded for the facts that 1.the water skill culture of women collecting seafood from the sea without diving equipment is passed down from generation to generation, 2.sustainable fishing that coexists with nature, and 3.the role of women are emphasized in the communities and its culture is passed down through the women's community.
About the Exhibition
Jeju, a picturesque island nestled in the southern part of South Korea, is home to the Haenyeo, remarkable women divers who harvest seafood while embodying a profound respect for nature. Delve into their captivating world through vibrant underwater snapshots and glimpses into their daily lives.
The exhibition will introduce will introduce the Jeju Haenyeo culture, including their costumes, equipment, food, skills, community spirit, and religion. Various photos and videos will be displayed too.
Date: 6th May 2024 to 21st June 2024
